Patriot Student-Athletes receive academic awards

Three Francis Marion University student-athletes were among those honored at the university's annual Academic Awards Day ceremony (April 18) in the McNair Science Building’s Chapman Auditorium.

Individual awards were given to students judged to have the most promise of success in their respective academic programs.

Dr. Kenneth M. Autrey, Pee Dee Federal Savings Bank Professor of English and 2009-10 J. Lorin Mason Distinguished Professor of the Year, addressed the students before the presentations.

Among those honored were men's basketball player Mindaugas Petreikis (Siauliai, Lithuania), who received the Economics Award; baseball first baseman Preston Shuey (Charlotte, NC), who was awarded the Finance Award; and baseball pitcher Joe Wagstaff (Zebulon, N.C.), who received the General Business Administration Award.
