Patriots and Knights swap home dates
Due to wet field conditions in Laurinburg, N.C., Francis Marion University and St. Andrews Presbyterian College have agreed to swap home playing dates. The non-conference baseball between the two schools scheduled for Tuesday (Feb. 16) in Laurinburg will now be played in Florence on FMU’s Cormell Field at 5 p.m.

Despite the non-spring-like weather in the Pee Dee region this week, the nationally ranked Francis Marion University baseball will open its 2010 season, albeit on a different day than originally thought. The Patriots open their campaign on Thursday with a 2 p.m. game at Erskine College.

Francis Marion University has been tabbed to finish second in the race for the 2010 Peach Belt Conference baseball title according to the PBC’s annual preseason coaches’ poll. The Patriots received two first-place votes and garnered 111 points, only three points shy of preseason favorite USC Aiken.

Hartsville hurler joins Patriots' staff
Right-handed pitcher Patrick Mincey has transferred to Francis Marion University and will join the Patriots’ pitching staff for the 2010 campaign, according to FMU head coach Art Inabinet. A native of Hartsville and a product of Hartsville High School, Mincey will have two years of eligibility at Francis Marion.
