Wagstaff leads Patriots to split of season-opening baseball twinbill
Senior right-hander Joe Wagstaff tossed a three-hitter and Preston Shuey and Buddy Sosnoskie combined for four hits as 15th-ranked Francis Marion University beat King College 5-1 in the second game on Sunday afternoon (Feb. 6) to enable the Patriots to split the season-opening college baseball doubleheader. King took advantage of five FMU errors in the opening contest to collect an 8-3 victory.

Right-hander named ABCA preseason All-American, Two others earn awards
Francis Marion University sophomore right-handed pitcher Don Sandifer has been named to the NCAA Division II preseason All-America Team as selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association. Two other Patriots, senior first baseman Preston Shuey and junior outfielder Buddy Sosnoskie, also gained preseason honors from the ABCA. Shuey was named to the “Players to Watch” list for 2011 and Sosnoskie was named to the “Newcomers to Watch” list.

Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced the signing of three players – catcher Cody Moody of Fort Mill, pitcher-infielder Cole Norwood of Darlington, and left-handed pitcher and first baseman Tyler Smith of Sumter – during the recent early signing period. All three will attend FMU in 2011 and play for the Patriots in 2012.
