Patriots add second Camel hurler

Francis Marion University baseball coach Art Inabinet has announced that senior right-handed relief pitcher Corey Carver of Faquay-Varina, N.C., has transferred from Campbell University to FMU and will join the Patriot program this fall.

Carver joins right-handed pitcher Joe Wagstaff, who earlier transferred from the NCAA Division I program in Buies Creek, N.C., to FMU.

Carver, 6-0 and 185-pounds, pitched for the Wilmington Sharks of the Coastal Plain League this past summer.  He appeared in 20 contests with a 1-3 mark, two saves, and a 2.34 earned run average.  He held opponents to a .185 batting average.

This past spring at Campbell, he made 13 appearances, all in relief, with no record.

Carver spent two seasons at Pitt Community College, where he was a combined 7-1 with four saves and a 3.15 ERA.

He was a two-time All-Conference selection at Fuquay-Varina High School, where he also garnered All-Academic Team honors twice.

“Corey knows how to pitch, has a quality arm, and will bring Division I experience to our staff,” said Inabinet.  “He can throw three pitches for a strike and will see action out of the Patriot bullpen.”

Francis Marion finished 2010 with a 40-14 record and a No.10 national ranking.  The Patriots hosted and finished second at the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.
