FMU Men beat UPR-Rio Piedras 95-75 behind Jones' 23 points

MELBOURNE, FL - Senior center Stanley Jones scored 23 points to lead six Patriots in double figures as Francis Marion University cruised to a 95-75 victory over the University of Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, Sunday afternoon (Nov. 16) on the final day of the Florida Tech Tip-Off Classic.

FMU (2-0) will host the Zaxby's Clazzic this weekend with the Patriots facing Savannah College of Art & Design on Friday at 8 p.m. and Coker College on Saturday at 6 p.m.

Jones connected on 6-of-8 shots from the floor and 11-of-15 free throws in only 20 minutes of action. Senior Kevin Clark added 15 points and 14 rebounds, while freshman Brynjar Bjornsson had 12 points, Crayton Jones compiled 11 points and eight assists, and Kendrick Robinson and Simel Boyd each tallied 10 points.

Bjornsson opened the game with a three-pointer as the Patriots raced to a 13-2 lead and never trailed. FMU led 44-35 at halftime.

Francis Marion connected on 50.8 percent of its field goal attempts, while holding UPR-Rio Piedras to 37.5 percent.
