Patriots are 11th, Couch 5th at URI Tournament

The Francis Marion University men's golf team occupies 11th place in the team standings and senior Christopher Couch is fifth in the individual standings after the opening day (36 holes) of the Adams Cup of Newport hosted by the University of Rhode Island.

The Patriots carded identical team rounds of 305 on Monday to stand at 34-over-par 610.  The University of New Mexico leads the 17-team field.

Couch fired rounds of 73 and 1-under 71 on the opening day and is six shots behind the individual leader - Jeb Buchanan of the University of Connecticut.  Other Patriot golfers are Sebastian Backlund in 21st place (73-75=148), Ciaran McKenna in 69th place (79-80=159), Matt Jackson in 75th place (81-79=160), and Travis Gantt in 82nd position (80-83=163).

The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday.
