FMU golf team places 15th at Maryland Intercollegiate
CAMBRIDGE, MD – Sophomore Kenneth Svanum shot a final-round 76 to finish tied for 35th in the individual standings and Francis Marion University placed 15th in the team standings at the conclusion of the third-annual Maryland Intercollegiate Golf Tournament on Sunday.
Penn State rallied for an eight-stroke victory over UNC Wilmington in the team standings. Xavier University finished third, followed by the University of Toledo and the host Terrapins.
Svanum finished with a three-round score of 223. Junior Kurt Slattery was Francis Marion’s next-best finisher as he tied for 62th place (78-75-77=230), while freshman Sean Morrison was 75th (81-77-78=236), junior Andrew Weir tied for 76th (80-80-77=237), and sophomore Sebastian Backlund was 79th (80-79-83=242).
The 54-hole event was played on the par 71, 6,801-yard River Marsh Golf Club course at the Hyatt Regency Resort in Cambridge, Md.
Francis Marion will compete in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate, Oct. 4-5, in Raleigh, N.C.
