Trojans corner Patriots in 3-1 soccer win

FLORENCE, SC – Anderson University scored a pair of goals off Adrien Moufflet corner kicks and claimed a soggy 3-1 victory over Francis Marion University, Saturday afternoon (Sept. 11) in men's college soccer action.

Intermittent rain fell as Anderson outshot the Patriots 19-5 and led 10-5 in corner kicks.  The Trojans improve to 2-1-1, while FMU falls to 0-4-0.

The Patriots got on the board in the 88th minute when senior defender Ivan Juric converted a penalty kick.  It was his 19th career score.

Anderson took a 1-0 advantage at the 6:17 mark when James Moseley scored on a header from six yards out.  The sequence began with Moufflet’s corner kick and Zach Denson headed the ball to Moseley for the goal.

The margin doubled to 2-0 in the 50th minute when a Moufflet corner kick was flicked on by Lasse Sohrweide to Mark Smith who scored his first goal of the season.  A miscue in the Patriot backline resulted in the Trojan’s third tally.  Ryan Messick played a ball through the middle that eluded a Patriot defender and Moufflet scored from inside the box.

FMU senior goalkeeper Clark Richeson registered nine saves, while Anderson senior goalkeeper Lukas Hesse made two stops.

Francis Marion plays at Catawba College on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
