FMU runners place 8th and 9th at UNCW meet
WILMINGTON, NC – The Francis Marion University men’s and women’s cross country teams finished eighth and ninth respectively at the adidas Seahawk Invitational Meet hosted by UNC Wilmington.
Sophomore Ian Wallace led the FMU Men with a 35th-place finish as he completed the 6,000-meter course in 21:51. Junior Ryan Woloszyn placed 56th (23:58) in his first race wearing the red, white, and blue, while senior Ben Miller was 59th (24:14), senior Jerry Roth was 67th (25:14), and freshman Michael Bigelow was 68th (25:43).
In the women’s 4,000-meter race, freshman Whitney Wagner was the first Patriot to cross the finish line in 37th position with a time of 16:51. Freshman LaMeisha Jackson placed 62nd (18:19), while junior Samantha Smith was 69th (18:30), senior Amanda Booker was 91st (20:10), and freshman London Barnhill was 112th (25:56).
The host Seahawks won the men’s team title, while UNCW and Campbell University shared the women’s team crown.
Both FMU squads will compete in the Asics-Winthrop University Invitational Meet on Sept. 18 in Rock Hill.
