Junior second baseman Ashley Jaramillo drove in four runs with a pair of doubles as Francis Marion University blanked Pfeiffer University 6-0 en route to a sweep of Sunday’s (April 10) non-conference softball doubleheader. Junior right-hander Kayla Ellingsen recorded the win in both games as the Patriots also rallied to win the opener 4-3.

Sammut's hit helps FMU to softball split with UNCP
Sophomore Ashleigh Sammut delivered her first career hit as a Patriot, an RBI double that plated the tying run and led to the go-ahead score, as Francis Marion University claimed a 3-2 win over UNC Pembroke, Wednesday afternoon (April 6) in first game of a Peach Belt Conference softball doubleheader. The Lady Braves reversed the result in game two by scoring an unearned run in the top of the 12th inning to take a 7-6 victory.

April Jowers’ two-run triple helped key a 6-1 AASU win in the second contest.

ASU won the opener 7-0 as junior right-hander Heather Hughes tossed a seven-hit shutout and shortstop Kacee Camp recorded three hits and drove in two runs.

FMU fell to Catawba College 3-2 as the Indians plated the winning run in the bottom of the last inning on a passed ball, and the Patriots were blanked 3-0 by Brevard College.

Francis Marion University was within four outs of sweeping its non-conference softball doubleheader at Limestone College, but the Patriots let a four-run lead slip away and had to settle for a win (3-2) and tie (4-4) on Tuesday afternoon (March 1). The second game, which FMU led 4-0 heading in to the bottom of the sixth inning, was called after seven innings because of darkness.

An error in the bottom of the ninth inning led to the game-winning run in game one and a fifth-inning tie-breaking homer spelled doom for the Francis Marion University softball team as the Patriots dropped a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader to Columbus State University on Sunday (Feb. 20). CSU won the opener 3-2 in nine innings on Kori Waugh’s RBI single, and then Waugh’s solo homer in the fifth inning broke a 4-4 deadlock and gave the Lady Cougars a 5-4 game two victory.

Francis Marion University softball coach Stacey Vallee has announced the signing of catcher Krissy Longstreet of Pinellas Park, Fla., and first baseman Carly Madigan of King, N.C., during the recent early signing period. During an adoption ceremony on Saturday (Oct. 2), the Patriots introduced Saharah, a 7-old-year from Chesterfield, as the newest member of the squad. Saharah and the Patriots were paired together by the Friends of Jaclyn Foundation (FOJ).
