Phillips tabbed for preseason All-PBC softball team
Francis Marion University senior outfielder Chelle Phillips has been selected to the Peach Belt Conference preseason All-Conference softball team, as announced this week by the PBC office in Augusta.
Phillips, a native of Waukee, Iowa, batted .349 with 47 runs scored in 52 games. She recorded 10 doubles, three triples, two home runs, and drove in 31 runs. She led the team with 12 sacrifices, was second on the team with 13 stolen bases (in 14 attempts), and registered a .405 on-base percentage.
She ended the year ranked among the Top 10 in the Peach Belt for hits, triples, and sacrifices. She ranked 89th nationally in run scored per game (0.90).
Phillips helped lead Francis Marion to a 36-16 record and the program’s second NCAA Tournament appearance in three years. FMU reached the championship game of the both the Peach Belt Conference Tournament and the NCAA Southeast Subregional Tournament.
Following the 2010 season, Phillips earned second-team Daktronics Inc. All-Southeast Region honors.
The Patriots open their 2011 campaign on Feb. 5-6 at the Early Bird Tournament in Aiken. FMU opens against the University of Charleston at 12 noon on Feb. 5.
