FMU to play in Carolina's Challenge in Myrtle Beach
Francis Marion University athletic officials have announced that the Patriot womens basketball team will participate in the 2009 Carolinas Challenge this December in the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. Francis Marion will play Bluefield (Va.) College at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 20. The University of North Carolina will meet the University of South Carolina at 3 p.m. and Coastal Carolina University will play Savannah State University in the nightcap at 5 p.m.

Francis Marion University womens basketball coach Heather Macy has announced that 5-9 sophomore forward Simone Trice of Flint, Mich., is transferring from Georgia Tech to FMU and will play for the Patriots this fall.

The Francis Marion University womens basketball team learned Sunday night that it has earned a second straight bid to the NCAA Division II National Tournament, and that the Patriots will be the fourth seed in the Southeast Regional to be played in Hickory, N.C., on Friday, Saturday, and Monday (March 13, 14, 16). The three-day regional will be hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne College in its 3,200-seast Shuford Memorial Gymnasium.

The Peach Belt Conference and its internet broadcasting partner Penn Atlantic have announced that beginning with games played on Monday, Feb. 2., all PBC games will be available for free. Prior to this, games had been available on a pay-per-view basis but continued expansion at Penn Atlantic will allow all games to be viewed for free with revenues generated from advertising.
