Patriots fall to Dolphins 3-0

 

JACKSONVILLE, FLA -Jacksonville University scored a pair of goals in the opening 22 minutes and survived a 51-minute rain delay to claim a 3-0 non-conference win over visiting Francis Marion University, Sunday afternoon (Sept. 12) in women's soccer action.

Francis Marion drops to 2-7-0.  The Patriots will travel to Western Carolina University for a 7 p.m. match on Friday.

Lisa Hensley gave the Dolphins a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute and Liz Fink doubled the margin with a 20-yard score in the 22nd minute.  Hensley assisted on Jacksonville's final goal, by Emily Culbreth, in the 50th minute.

Jacksonville outshot FMU 30-11 and led 8-1 in corner kicks.  FMU junior goalkeeper Casey Durham allowed the three goals and made 10 saves in her 53:44 minding the net.  Junior Lauren Vetock finished up and made three saves.

Kiley Williams led Francis Marion with five shots, including one attempt that hit the crossbar in the 66th minute.  Caitlyn Margusity had three shots, including two on frame.

Jacksonville keepers Alexa Rooney and Sarah Sierra combined on the shutout.
