FMU Runners place 17th at Asics-Winthrop Invitational
ROCK HILL, SC – Both the Francis Marion University men’s and women’s cross country teams finished 17th at the Asics-Winthrop University Invitational Meet, Saturday morning (Sept. 18) in Rock Hill.
Sophomore Ian Wallace again led the Francis Marion men with a 105th-place finish. He toured the 8,000-meter course in a personal-best time of 29:45. Sophomore Justin Albertson finished 123rd (30:24), followed by junior Ryan Woloszyn in 133rd (31:24), senior Ben Miller in 134th (31:26), freshman Michael Bigelow in 146th (34:36), and senior Jerry Roth in 149th (34:50).
Freshman Whitney Wagner led the FMU women as she finished the 5,000-meter course in 78th position with a time of 21:04. Fellow freshman LaMeisha Jackson placed 130th (23:03), while junior Samantha Smith was 133rd (23:10), freshman Charity Hawkins was 158th (24:55), and freshman London Barnhill was 174th (29:37).
Appalachian State University won the men’s team title, while the University of South Carolina edged ASU to claim the women’s team championship.
The South Carolina Intercollegiate Championships were scored simultaneously with the Asics-Winthrop Invitational. Both Francis Marion squads finished in 10th position.
The Patriot teams will participate in the Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational Meet, hosted by USC Aiken on Sept. 25.
